Frequently Asked Questions

How long between order and delivery?

The boards are manufactured as finished  blanks (fibreglassed and sanded) with drainage channels, handling groove and brand applied but before any collection areas are machined and before the tung oil is applied.  In warmer conditions a coat of tung oil can take two –four days to harden.  I would expect that delivery would be achieved within two weeks if provided from existing inventory. As a niche artisan operation you would be advised whether your order would be taking longer.

Are the boards dish washer proof?

I would recommend hand washing as the dishwasher will dry the board out.

How often does the board need to be re-oiled?

After frequent use the board may show signs of dryness.  Tung oil is an available product and can be applied with a clean rag.  Please note the application directions on the can.

What glue has been used?

The glue is Woodlok WL2500.  This is an interior/exterior crosslinking D3 PVA that meets the International Standard EN-204 D3 for water resistance.

What is the fibreglass product?

The fibreglass resin is NORSKI “Four to One Epoxy Resin”.  It cures to a clear greyish colour. This means that the natural flaws that occur in the timber can be emphasised and indeed become features of the board.

How many laminates are there in each board?

The number generally depends on the timber out of the rack and each has an average width of circa 18mm.  This can vary out to 30mm and thin veneers of jarrah are used to provide a colour accent.  As a general rule there are between seven and seventeen.

What sizes are available?

I can offer a variation in sizes up to 380mm wide, down to 12mm thick and out to 600mm long – it depends on where and how you want to store the board.  For the smaller, thinner boards I can provide a finger cut out in one corner of the board so the board can be stored and lifted vertically.

Do all boards come with drainage channels and collection areas?

No, the smaller and thinner boards do not have that facility.  The thicker boards can be manufactured with or without the collection area.  I would recommend the drainage channels as a minimum.

Are all boards branded?

Yes, a small hand branded “G” is placed on each side of the board as my mark of authenticity.

How do I order?

Just complete the order form attached and return by email.  I have a number of standard blanks in stock that can be finished quickly but the application of the tung oil has to be when the workshop temperature exceeds 10 degrees.

Does the quoted price include freight?

No, each order will be courier priced and once full payment is received through internet banking the goods will be despatched.  You will be advised the Track & Trace details by email

Will the boards mark?

Although hardwood has been used the boards will, over time, become marked with knife cuts – those are inevitable but again adds to the character of the board.  The boards can be re-sanded using a random orbital sander (with 80 grit) but the tung oil finish will initially clog the sandpaper quickly.  Once that coating has been removed final sanding (with 240 grit) will restore the surface for re-oiling.
