AwesomeBoards began as a hobby after being asked to carve a large turkey or ham at Christmas and not being able to obtain a platter big enough to show my carving skills.
By trial and error the AwesomeBoard product line has taken shape and I am pleased, as an artisan, to offer a size selection that can be accommodated in the kitchen.
The approximate dimensions are:

Champagne Ham 600 x 360 x 28
Fillet of Beef 500 x 320 x 28
Rack of Lamb 420 x 270 x 28
The boards are hand laminated from recycled hardwoods (rimu, matai, kauri and totara) with other milled hardwood timbers (jarrah and tasmanian blackwood) to provide a colour balance.  Each board is unique and reflects the character of the timber with its swirls, knots, nail holes, shakes and grain patterns to provide a table centrepiece that can be used for carving, presentation or, on the reverse side, an antipasto platter.

Each board has drainage channels and a collection area on one side so meat juices can be retained and has, on each end, a handling groove to facilitate handling the board.
The reverse side is left plain and can be used for the presentation of dips, cheeses, olives, salami or salads.

Once the laminated blank has been machined to circa 28mm all swirls, knot holes, nail holes and shakes are filled with fibreglass resin to preserve the hygienic integrity of the board.

The board is finished with tung oil, a drying oil rather than soaking oil.  The boards are given three coats of tung oil before shipment.  The surface can be refreshed by wiping a further coat of tung oil on the board and leaving to dry overnight.
These boards are meant to be used and enjoyed
